Before we move any dirt, we paint the lines. It sounds simple, but this step is what separates a bed that looks intentional from one that looks thrown together. We map out every curve and corner with marking paint directly on the turf so we can see the full layout before committing to anything.

Once the lines are down, we edge and firm each bed along those painted borders. This locks in the shape and gives us a clean, consistent boundary to work within. It also makes the edging itself much crisper - no guessing, no eyeballing from across the yard.

A lot of crews skip this step and go straight to digging. The problem with that is you lose the ability to step back and evaluate the layout while it's still easy to adjust. Painting first gives us - and the homeowner - a chance to make sure everything looks right before we're committed.

What you end up with is a finished bed that actually fits the space. Clean lines, intentional curves, and edges that hold up. That's the goal with every landscape design and renovation we take on, whether it's a small foundation bed or a full backyard overhaul. Stay tuned - the finished look is coming.
